Giving It Your all

2020 has been a grind. There, I said it- the understatement of the year.  It has been one proverbial punch in the gut and disappointment after another.  It has taken us everything to beat the issues (self-inflicted of course) created by this pandemic.  At every level, there has been no shortage of sacrifice.  The pandemic has challenged us personally, professionally and in every way possible.
In my time sailboat racing, I've often been asked by reporters or casual observers of the sport - what it takes to win?  Simple answer- "give it your all".
When many might call it quits, it means pulling out that last little bit, one more trim, one more flawless tack and one more hike.
In business, it's much the same.  I learned this working for big companies, and later applied it to my own businesses.  It takes giving it your every little bit of you.   My heart goes out to anyone in small business right now- because giving it your all isn't enough with this pandemic.  It keeps taking and taking.
In the end, the same applies here.  You work that last bit of you to make it across the finish line.   As I was thinking about this recently, it reminded me of the famous Vince Lombardi motivational speach- "What it Takes to be number One".   There is a line that epitomizes what it takes and it is along the mantra of the Karma sailing mindset and one that has helped us all get through this year.  So as we all put in that last little bit before the end of the year.  A year we will not soon forget-  Consider yourself victorious.  You made it!! I f

"I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour – his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear – is that moment when he has to work his heart out in a good cause and he’s exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.” my believe that any man’s finest hour – his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear – is that moment when he has to work his heart out in a good cause and he’s exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.”

Good Bye 2020- We won't miss you!
